it's all about pink

It's all about pink for this gal - my stampin' buddy Pat - so I HAD to use pinks in a thank you card for her recently. This is my latest stamp set ... ok, TWO of my latest stamp sets ... 'cuz I got a $10 rebate offer from PayPal and ended up ordering two different bird/bird cage sets when I ordered, LOL! I had the DP on hand for inspiration already, and had been searching the Internet for a bird and bird cage stamp that I'd seen once in my travels and mistakenly lost the info from ... well, I've got PLENTY now! These are from Stampendous, and I just HAD to have IO's birdcage pyramid, don't you know ... more on that later!

stamps: Stampendous' birthday cages, tweet cages; paper: Basic Grey's porcelain DP, SU's Always Artichoke, Pretty in Pink card stocks, recycled white card stock from my work place; inks: SU's - methinks they were Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, and Ruby Red, distressed with Ranger's antique linen and SU's Cameo Coral

happy belated b'day Beth

A coworker celebrated her b'day over the weekend and WE celebrated it on Monday with donuts from her fav donut-provider - if you're in the Flint area, check out Donna's Donuts - YUM! I made the card w waves based on the video tutorial at this post from the kind folkes at the Hero Arts blog.

I know the sailboat doesn't conform to any semblance of reality ... but Beth and her family sail most summer weekends ... and it was fun making it! I first made my sailboat using a 1-1/4" circle punch, then the wave stencil using recycled acrylic sheets from work, making my waves all the same size using SU's slit punch. Then I used an X-Acto knife to cut along the top of the waves to tuck the sailboat into the scene, matted and popped it up on the card base. The inside sentiment's PC-generated: Friends like you keep us afloat!

stamps: Clear & Simple Stamps' sunshine; paper: Paper Reflections' black, SU's Soft Suede, and recycled white card stock from handouts from my workplace (hey, it's Earth Day week, right?!); ink: SU's Tempting Turquoise, Yo Yo Yellow

thanx - I needed that!

A hybrid card for today - it's mid-week and I'm home playing. I asked for a last-minute vacation day yesterday afternoon, by special request from my DH, who thought we should head to a local golf store to stock up on supplies as our league starts next week ... and maybe check out clubs while we're there. I'd like a new pair of sandals too. My DH gave me a gift card to go towards clubs a year ago Christmas and I hadn't used it, so today's the day! I put the card in his card this year with a note that it goes towards today's purchases.

Until then, though, I thought I'd play on the PC. I made a thank you card for a friend who loves Penny Black hedgehogs - they're so stinkin' cute, y'know?! The card's based on today's Splitcoaststampers' SC277 sketch challenge and uses a digi image someone e-mailed me last year. I used Photoshop's color picker tool to grab a few colors from the image and colored some card stock - recycled handout materials from my work place in honor of it being Earth Day tomorrow (and 'cuz I'm temporarily out of white card stock except for scraps!).

stamps: Penny Black's Acrobat, MSE's hand written (inside sentiment); paper: recycled handout cover from work; inks: ColorBox Frost White, Tri-C watercolor markers; accessories: SU 1/4" pretty in pink grosgrain ribbon from my most recent ribbon share; tools: ek success' dotted scallop border punch

surprise!

My eldest son and I are both movie junkies. I surprised him last Sunday and took him to see How To Train Your Dragon, when he'd expected that we were off to our usual Blockbuster outing.

It was SO nice ... except for my timing mixup. I'd searched show times based on the movie title, and when we arrived in plenty of time for the particular showing, then realized it was playing in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D at the same theater. Well, if you've not been to a 3D show lately (where've you BEEN?!), they're just SO much more worth it ... so, we waited 'til the next 3D showing, which happened to be an IMAX showing. Well, my son has spacial issues and walking into large rooms freaks him out. In the past we've had regular outings to museums and let him very slowly adapt to his surroundings, and he's been to IMAX shows at this theater in the past, but on this particular occasion it was too much, too quickly, for him and we had to return to the ticket booth to exchange our IMAX 3D tickets for the smaller theater's 3D tickets. The delays meant weren't long enough to warrant returning home but WERE long enough so that Mom could pick up extra nachos and pop, so we just cooled our heels watching previews of coming attractions ... over and over and over again ... sigh ... while waiting for our movie.

The movie? He LOVED it! My opinion? GREAT stuff; here's a trailer for you.

Our prior 3D venture, Avatar, comes out on DVD tomorrow! If you haven't checked out either of these movies, you should!

Vicky at Clips-N-Cuts is celebrating 100 posts and inviting all of us to connect via a new-to-me type of blog hop. It's a script similar to Mr. Linky, but when you add your blog's URL here, it will show up on everyone else's page too! She's aiming to connect 1,000 bloggers and I think it'll be interesting to see how many we connect!

Ready?

a two-fer

It's been a while since I've made a card based on any challenge - sketch or otherwise, and today I've got a two-fer: this one's for the FTL86 sketch and embellish magazine's parties color challenge one.

The flower stamp set's a new (to me) one that I picked up a couple weeks ago and hadn't inked 'til today. It's my Inkadinkado one to substitute for SU's Fifth Avenue Floral set ... or Papertrey Ink's various florals (boy, they've got quite a few in their lineup now!). Well, they've all been on my wish list, and we all know how fast THAT grows, LOL!

stamps: Inkadinkado's The Garden Variety, MSE's Hand Written; paper: The Paper Co's kraft card stock; ink: CTMH's Cranberry and Tri-C watercolor markers, Color Box Frost White, Tombow's white gel pen, and SU's Basic Black

make-'n-take

Scroll down for my blog candy winner post (congrats, Tanya!).

I've gotta admit, this may be my first Saturday make -'n- take where I have no clear favorite card ... they're both stinkin' cute! Here's one of the cards we made today. No deets 'cuz I was too lazy to walk around checking where the supplies came from.

The smaller top yellow-mounted tent-fold card has a PC-generated sentiment on vellum card stock mounted inside. I used my Tombow mono vellum adhesive to mount that - a first time using this brand, part of my winnings from the product testing I participated in last year as noted in this post. I've been disappointed with past vellum adhesives as it tends to show thru the vellum material but this adhesive rocks! The larger tent-fold card is blank inside. My bow lady (thanx, Pat) helped me out with the yellow bow.

Tanya904, Blog Candy Winner!

Hi folkes! Just a quick note to advise that I used random.org to draw the winning post number, and sent Tany904, post #3, an e-mail to let her know she's the lucky winner of the blog candy, giving her 48 hours (as noted in the original post) to claim the booty! If I don't hear back from Tanya, I'll draw again on Monday 4/19 after 2:15 p.m. Now I'm off to pick up a pizza box to mail all the winnings in!

adding Wednesday's blog booty

hi folkes; long time, no see! here's today's addition to the blog candy!

My Mom and I both collect cardinals, so I'm forever checking out bird stamp sets. Here's a couple that I picked up recently - both sets for me, and another set for one lucky blog visitor. Leave a little love at the original blog candy post to be added to the drawing. I'll draw a name on April 16th, then post the winner on my blog, and try getting in touch with you if you leave your e-mail addy.

'nuff said. I'm gonna go stamp a card using one of my new stamp sets! catch ya again just after midnight for the last of the booty!

yesterday is history ...

yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present. that's why they call it a gift!

I oops'd Tuesday. I'd MEANT to post additional booty to my blog candy, honestly, but time got away from me. I can just hear my Mom quoting, "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions!" Yes, Mom! So, tell ya what I'm gonna do, folkes. I'm posting additional blog candy today HERE as a timed message for yesterday ... so it's KINDA posted yesterday (grins), right?! Then I'll add a post for additional blog candy for today, and then add a timed post for after midnight so I'll be sure to have everything added! That blows my "post a message for each day I add the candy" rule so I'll modify my original post. Leave a message on my original post to enter the drawing for the entire blog candy package. Enjoy!

found camera ... added blog candy!

Today's all about flowers and bows and eyelets. Sigh ... we had an all out search party today at our house. I'd lost my camera and had been unable to add any pictures to the blog all week. Today I told offered either a movie outing or early birthday present to which ever one was first to find it! My birthday boy won out - he got a PS3 game today while his birthday is still a week or so away! So ... here's some additional candy, folkes!

This gets added to my growing pile of blog booty, and you can enter a multitude of ways - see original blog candy post, which will be updated to show the whole stash! The packaging could change , as I have plenty of plastic bags but plan to fit everything into a large pizza box, so the flowers will be moved to an appropriate container.

blog candy

Here's a link to ABC Toys and Crafts blog candy - stop by and leave a little love by April 17th if you're interested! I AM!

... and yes, I'm adding goodies to my own blog candy today! I'm off to go take a pic now!

in with the new, out with the old

I have such great timing (NOT!), having purchased a family of markers just last month ... but with the arrival of new color families comes the departure of these SU colors. It's always a mini shock to the system, but I repeat my mantra: change is good!

edited to add 4/7 3:30 p.m.: I've since read that the retiring colors will be available through June 30, 2010. After June 1, they are available while supplies last only.

Here's a sneak peek at the retiring colors!

new SU colors peek

Just a quick post tonite ... sorry I've been SUCH a slacker this past week but I HAD to share the pic of SU's new colors that I spotted while blog trolling this evening. Enjoy! I'll catch you tomorrow, when I promise I'll add to the blog candy again!

edited to add: I've since read that the new color collections will be available July 1, 2010 ... and what about the In Colors, you ask? I read today (Wed, 4/7) that, beginning this year, In Colors will debut in collections of five and stick around for TWO years instead of just one. Next year five MORE will debut so then we'll have 10 In Colors.
